National day for Truth and Reconciliation

The Survivors' flag, presented by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30th, CAPACOA’s office will be closed to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, a day to commemorate the legacy of residential schools. We invite our members to join us in committing to reflecting on Canada’s colonial legacy and learning from Indigenous artists, activists and knowledge-keepers.

Above is the Survivors’ Flag, shared by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by Survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation.
