Performing arts and Geography Find Common Ground

December 10, 2012 – CAPACOA is pleased to announce a new partnership with Canadian Geographic and Strategic Moves to bring highlights from The Value of Presenting study to Canadians.

As part of this partnership, Canadian Geographic will feature a dynamic new thematic module on The Performing Arts, in the Canadian Atlas Online. In developing the thematic, Canadian Geographic will produce a series of videos illustrating the findings of the study, and will provide editorial coverage in Canadian Geographic magazine.

The Royal Canadian Geographical SocietyCanadian Geographic magazine is read by 3.6 million Canadians. Of its readers, 700,000  attended a live theatre performance during the last year and thousands took in ballet, opera, jazz, country, pop and classical music concerts. The Canadian Atlas Online is a bilingual authoritative and trusted source of information that is accessed more than 200,000 times a year by students, teachers and the general public.

“Canadian Geographic is dedicated to making Canada better known to Canadians and to the world. The Canadian Atlas Online will be strengthened by the inclusion of this new thematic on performing arts presenters,” said André Préfontaine, President and Publisher of Canadian Geographic Enterprises. “We are proud and pleased to partner with CAPACOA to offer Canadians pertinent, timely information on this country’s vibrant performing arts presenters.”

“This study has taught us that performing arts presenters are adept at forging partnerships, and that the ripple effects of their work go far beyond their immediate sector. We are really grateful to be given the opportunity to exemplify these findings through our own partnership with Canadian Geographic,” said Phyllis Stenson, CAPACOA president, and artistic director of the Harrison Festival of the Arts. “Moreover, this partnership enables us to deliver on one of the project’s main goals: to raise awareness of the role of performing arts presenters among Canadians.”

The new thematic module of the Canadian Atlas Online and The Value of Presenting final report are planned to be launched in April 2013. Visit www.valueofpresenting.ca or subscribe to our All Access newsletter for regular updates.

The Value of Presenting: A Study of Arts Presentation in Canada is being conducted in order to understand and communicate the value and benefits of presenting for Canadians and to raise awareness of the role of the live arts presenter in the creative chain, in communities, in society. The study is made possible thanks to the funding of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Government of Nova Scotia, with in-kind and financial support from presenting networks and presenters from coast to coast.
