Arts goers have better health, higher volunteer rates, and stronger satisfaction with life

January 30, 2013 – “Cultural festival attendees have a 25% greater likelihood of reporting very strong satisfaction with life.”

A new Hill Strategies report provided evidence of strong connections between arts attendance (theatre, concerts, festivals) and eight indicators of individual health and well-being. Cultural participants have significantly better results than non-participants for 101 out of 144 cross-tabulations (or 70%). This report builds on earlier research conducted by CAPACOA as part of The Value of Presenting study.

While this report doesn’t demonstrate the existence of a cause and effect relationship, it does suggest that arts ought to be part of successful health promotion and wellbeing strategies.
