October 2, 2017 – CAPACOA sent in a written a submission in response to the consultation on options to reform the Copyright Board of Canada.
CAPACOA’s submission draws on lessons learnt from our work with Re:Sound to design fair and flexible tariffs for right holders and music users. Among other things, the submission stresses the need for tariffs consolidation:
“In the live events sector, we have witnessed a proliferation of tariffs for similar uses of music. The consequence of this practice is not only a high volume of matters before the board, but also a greater complexity and administrative burden upon multiple tariff users. Consequently, the Board should consider a regulatory measure to incentivize tariff consolidation wherever possible.”
