For more than two years, CAPACOA and partner organizations have been laying the groundwork for a data ecosystem for the performing arts. Among other things, we have been assigning unique IDs to everything performing arts: artists, organizations, venues, productions and events. And we have been developing a capacity to make information about the performing arts more easily discoverable via the Artsdata Knowledge Graph and Wikidata.
Have we got an IMDb for the performing arts, yet? No. We’re pursuing a different goal. We are building a decentralized and interconnected data ecosystem owned and managed by the performing arts community.
If your association holds and maintains datasets about the performing arts, please get in touch with Bridget MacIntosh to find out how you can be part of this ecosystem.
If you are a presenting organization, continue improving your digital presence with structured data and Wikidata.
In closing, we want to say kudos to Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, Crow’s Theatre and SPEC du Haut-Richelieu. All three have contributed time to test and develop new technologies supporting the linked open data ecosystem for the performing arts.
