Indigenous Voices at the CAPACOA Conference

November 8, 2017 – Perceptions and interpretations of culture is as diverse and complex as the people and the landscape. Creating and opening space for the Indigenous voice challenges the lens of interpretation and allows diverse cultural intersections to intercept.

Brian Solomon, Bryden Gwis Kiwenzie, Christine Friday, Denise Bolduc and Jeremy DutcherThe CAPACOA Conference, The Culture of Community – or Pimaadjiwowin Eji Tanaki wiiyaang in the language of the Algonquin Nation – will create communal space for the intersection of artistic expression by a diversity of Indigenous nations and voices.

The first of these spaces will be an opening performance featuring Indigenous artists Brian Solomon, Bryden Gwis Kiwenzie and Jeremy Dutcher, on November 15, in the NAC Fourth Stage, immediately after the awards dinner.

Then, on November 18, we will be at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health to explore the future of CAPACOA through new creation with artists Christine Friday, Brian Solomon and creative director, Denise Bolduc.

Lacey HillThis discussion will segue into the Artist Voice, featuring Lacey Hill. Lacey will be interviewed by Denise Bolduc and will make a short performance.

A soulful musician, singer, and songwriter, Lacey Hill composes her music in Southern Ontario on the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve. Currently, Lacey is booking shows and hustling her new sophomore album “M” (released Feb. 2017 and available on iTunes) all while expanding her local fan bases in Six Nations, Hamilton, Toronto, and beyond.

Moreover, many Indigenous artists will be showcasing at the Conference, including Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Quantum Tangle, and Twin Flames.
