Yvon Crazy Smooth Soglo – Dance (CAN) Dancing since 1997, Crazy Smooth is one of Canada’s top street dancers, performers, choreographers, instructors, judges, and community leaders. He is the founder and artistic director of Bboyizm, an award-winning street-dance company that has been instrumental in the preservation and proliferation of street dance in Canada and internationally. Crazy Smooth was named the 2020 Clifford E Lee award recipient by the Banff Centre for the Arts for his work-in-progress In My Body, currently in creation as the 2019-2021 Long Term Artist in Residence at the Centre de Création O Vertigo in Montreal. The company has been nominated for a Dora award (2012) and won both the Atlantic Presenters Association Touring Performers of the Year Award (2013) and the Ontario Presenters Network Emerging Touring Artist of the Year (2012). Puño de Tierra – Theatre (MEX)Fernando is a theatre director, actor and writer who trained at the Instituto de Cine in Madrid and went on to Co-found the Puño de Tierra Company. For the company, he has directed 25 productions, including Almacenados, A ocho Columnas, Los Ingrávidos and Algo en
Fuenteovejuna. As an actor he has performed in more than 30 theatre productions as well as in films that include Estanislao or El norte sobre el vacío and series such as Narcos T3 or Un extraño enemigo T2. As a playwright, he has authored 8 plays, including Otro Mar, Masiosare and El Corrido del Rey Lear. His work has been presented at the Cervantino Festival, the Muestra Nacional de Teatro, the Manizales Theater Festival, the Night of the Theaters in Madrid, the Sleepless Night festival in Miami, the Encuentro de Teatro Joven in Buenos Aires and the Ibero-American Festival in Bogota.

Led by Artistic Director Jack Gray and Executive Director Marama Lloydd, Atamira Dance Company is a contemporary dance company, renowned for highly artistic and inventive work. This collective of 21 years of Indigenous dance making, spans an illustrious roster of Māori choreographers and dance artists informing the unique cultural landscape of Aotearoa (New Zealand). Inspired by historical, current, and future relationship to Māori lifeways, the company resonates with national and global audiences who receive the many gifts of embodied whakapapa (genealogy and cosmology) and matauranga Māori (traditional esoteric knowledge and protocols). Atamira has previously toured extensively within Aotearoa and internationally to Australia, Noumea, the USA, Taiwan, Korea, and China. They look forward to future tours of their legacy work “Te Wheke”.
Mele Broomes works between directing, creative producing, choreography and performance. Thinking about and actioning teams that best reflect and support the artistry that is being presented. Her work embodies stories from the collective voice, creating visceral and sensory collaborations through her ancestral heritage. Activating social questions, remembering and celebrating.
This new collaboration between Action Hero and Mia + Eric was formed after the duos were introduced during an artist double-date in Calgary, and each realised they’d met their artist doppelgangers. They decided to work together as an artistic supergroup & create a project for public space.
Roberta Estrela D’Alva (Brazil) Actress-MC, director, playwright, spoken word artist, slammer, activist and researcher. With a BA in Performing Arts at the University of São Paulo and a Doctorate degree in Communication and Semiotics at PUC/SP (Catholic University of São Paulo). Founding member of the Núcleo Bartolomeu de Depoimentos (first Brazilian Hip-Hop Theater company with 20 years of existence) Roberta is the creator and slammaster at ZAP! the first poetry slam in Brazil, organizes the Brazilian national poetry championship “SLAM BR” and travels the world as a guest at slam events.
Veda Hille is a songwriter, composer, and performer based in Vancouver, BC. Hille’s songs are wide-ranging in style—characterized by sharp observation and surprising turns held in place with pervasive melody. To date she’s released 24 albums, which include the new solo show Little Volcano, as well as King Arthur’s Night (a cast recording of a show with Neworld Theatre), and Love Waves, an album of personal songs that topped multiple best-of lists. Her most recent musical, Onegin is an adaptation (written with Amiel Gladstone) of the Russian classic, which went on to win 10 Jessie Richardson awards and will have its Russian premiere in Moscow in 2021.
Founded by Thomas E.S Kelly and Taree Sansbury in 2017, Karul Projects is a Performing Arts Company that tells stories of Indigenous knowledge, its relevance and responsibility in modern and future Australia’s identity.
Neworld Theatre creates, produces, and tours new plays, performance events and digital works. Our work centers stories and perspectives that challenge systems of oppression. Our motto is ‘plays well with others’ which means that collaboration and working across perceptions of difference are vital to the way we work. We deliver community-engaged programs and are at the forefront of developing cultural infrastructure and sectoral capacity in Vancouver and across the country.
Paula Aros Gho is a Chilean performing artist trained as an actress and theater director at the University of Chile (2002) and MA Devised Theater at Dartington College of Arts, England (2007). She is dedicated to directing, dramaturgy and teaching focused on the notion of scenic performativity. Her research and main interest is to highlight the co-presence between artists, audiences and specific contexts. Her works are based on investigations with text production during the staging process. She is interested in site-specific creation, community work, local casts, and mediation within the work itself.
Elle Sofe Sara, based in Guovdageaidnu, is a choreographer and director who works at the interlaces of filmmaking, dance and theatre. In her works she regularly sheds light on the social, political and cultural peculiarities and challenges of the Sámi People.
Delivering its unique Afro-electro music infused with percussive yet futuristic flavors, Afrikana Soul Sister is the happy collision of landscapes and people who don’t usually tend to intertwine. Most of all, it is also a reunion of brothers and sisters. Tackling the relationship with nature, strength of work, respect for elders and the beauty of life through lyrics in Mandingo and Wolof dialects, Afrikana Soul Sister manages to achieve an open yet comfortable balance between modernity and tradition. Carried by frenzied rhythms and intoxicating grooves, the outcome is a stunning, memorable experience

Paper Canoe Projects was founded in 2013 to support the development of multidisciplinary projects that explore the connection between body memory and creative expression. Projects include: A Side of Dreams, I Call myself Princess, Prophecy Fog, Just One Word and “eu·tha·na·sia”. There are two new projects in development.
Choreographer-documentalist and artistic director of RD Créations, Rhodnie Désir has created about fifteen pieces, like BOW’T TRAIL Retrospek and her pioneering memoir journey BOW ‘T TRAIL has earned her two awards from the Prix de la danse de Montréal (2020): The Prix Envol and the Grand Prix. In 2021, she was chosen as one of the “25 to watch” by Dance Magazine in New York and nominated for the prestigious career award “The APAP Award of Merit”.
Founded on a ranch during the Y2K apocalypse, now based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the Old Trout Puppet Workshop is a unique & award-winning creative collective that mostly makes darkly hilarious puppet shows for adults and tours them around the world, but also makes films, books, public sculpture, and music, as well as designs for theatre and opera. Ghost Opera was created by the Old Trouts in collaboration with celebrated LA-based composer Veronika Krausas, a professor at the prestigious Thornton School of Music at UCLA, and the libretto is based on a story by Giller Prize-winning author André Alexis.
Starr Muranko is a Vancouver-based choreographer/dancer and Co-Artistic Director of Raven Spirit Dance. She honours and celebrates her mixed heritage of Cree (Moose Cree First Nation), French and German in all of her work. Her choreography has been shared both locally and nationally including the Talking Stick Festival, Coastal Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge, Weesageechak Begins to Dance, Impact Festival and InFringing Dance Festival. She has been a company member of the Dancers of Damelahamid since 2005, touring across Canada and internationally, and is passionate about sharing dance and culture with children and youth.
Rita Braga is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Portugal. She performs songs in multiple languages. Over the last decade she has performed all across Europe, the US, Brazil, Australia and Japan. From time to time, she receives insight from cartoon personalities in her dreams (such as Bugs Bunny) on how to conduct her career.
Established in Toronto in 1990, Peggy Baker Dance Projects is a contemporary dance company that has been distinguished from its outset by collaborations with extraordinary creators and performers. Under the leadership of Peggy Baker, one of her generation’s most accomplished dance artists, the company has built an exceptional body of work and a slate of enrichment programs for all ages and abilities. Peggy Baker Dance Projects began as a vehicle for Baker’s solo dance expression; the company’s work now encompasses solo and ensemble dance repertoire, performed to both live and electro-acoustic music, featuring a diverse company of outstanding dancers.
Ian Kamau is an artist, writer, and designer from Toronto. He has released seven music projects including the self-produced album One Day Soon (2011) and has published articles, short stories, and poems in publications by Vice, Coach House Press, and Book Thug. The son of pioneering filmmakers he was the founding creative director of Nia Centre for the Arts, has a Bachelor in Design and a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University, and a Masters in Strategic Foresight and Innovation from OCAD University. His research interests include cultural production, storytelling, and critical city building with a focus on actualization.
Director of theater and cinema, he creates “site-specific” works in territories (large cities, rural areas, favelas and indigenous communities), which are born from creative processes together with people of different cultures and generations, who do not usually find each other. The works are born from their memories, languages, knowledge and conflicts, and are represented in public and private spaces of the cities, combining the documentary with fictions that travel through the past, the present and the future.
Santee Smith is a multidisciplinary artist, award-winning producer and managing Artistic Director of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre. She is from the Kahnyen’kehàka (Mohawk) Nation, Turtle Clan, Six Nations of the Grand River territory. Her interest is activating creativity through performance conceived and devised from an Indigenous lens and process. Her training includes: Canada’s National Ballet School; Physical Education and Psychology degrees from McMaster University and a M.A. in Dance from York University. Santee produced her first work Kaha:wi – a family creation story in 2004 and later founded Kaha:wi Dance Theatre which has grown into an internationally renowned company.
Chévere is a theatrical agitation company with a history of more than 30 years of work that is based in social, political and cultural positioning and reflection. Using humor as a philosophy, laughter as an expression and critical thinking as a tool, the company’s plays confront the debates of the present day with the memory of a recent past that affects us, documenting it scenically with a contemporary language accessible to very diverse audiences. Examples of this modus operandi: N.E.V.E.E.R.M.O.R.R.E. (2021), Curva España (2019), Eroski Paraíso (2016), As Fillas Bravas (2015), Ultranoite no País dos Ananos (2014), Eurozone (2013), the trilogy Citizen (2010-2011) or Testosterona (2009).
Parts+Labour_Danse consists of two Montreal choreographers who have become increasingly prominent in recent years. Emily Gualtieri and David Albert-Toth explore the ambiguities of the human experience in dynamic works that captivate and challenge audiences. Pitting the concrete against fantasy, collaboration is the key word in their creative universe, shaped by the contributions of performers and designers intimately involved in the creative process. They have produced their works since 2011 across Canada and in Europe, winning various awards and nominations over the years.
Annabelle Chvostek is a Juno-nominated singer-songwriter, composer and producer whose musical achievements range from jazz to contemporary roots. She’s released six solo recordings, composed music for dance and film, and was once in the band The Wailin’ Jennys.
